Ushering in 2010
It’s late, it’s dark. I’ve just finished part watching The Exorcism of Emily Rose and I am most definitely not a fan of horror movies so I can’t quite get to sleep yet. There is also very little ‘free time’ left before the new work year so I’ll multitask with photos and words and ‘The Cider House Rules’
We invited EL and his girlfriend over for dinner on New Year’s eve, just a quiet one. I made a potato and carrot rosti (I have to say that it was not a Swiss or German or Swiss German recipe but French though I’m sure they’re pretty much all the same), EL bought roast duck from Chinatown that we had with red cabbage and even though the combination sounded strange, it worked pretty well! And for dessert just before the turn of the new year, we had macaron parfait with the chocolate macarons with vanilla bean buttercream that I’d made earlier. It was an understated affair but quite enjoyable with limited references to “The Motherland,” even with the over promotion of German chocolates.
