Brunch at The Diner on Ganton Street

I am absolutely a brunch person and it was great to catch up with Prema (and shopping of course) over Brunch at The Diner on Ganton Street. Prema needed to get a gown for a ball and I hadn’t had enough of shopping despite having shopped Boxing Day and the next day. She had the idea of getting a long cheongsam in lieu of a ball gown and we headed to Chinatown after a brunch of Eggs Benedict and Eggs Royale with a side of onion rings. The eggs couldn’t be faulted and the latte was good but the onion rings are definitely not a match for the battered onion rings at The Prince Bonaparte or Hache.

With Prema as inspiration, I also bought my very first cheongsam. [Aside to parents: I knew I’d re-discover my Chinese roots somewhere some day!] It’s black with gold embroidery and I have no idea where I’m going to wear it to yet.

So back to brunch. As far as brunch/breakfast places go, I think my favourite is posh nosh Bob Bob Ricard. I went there once for dinner with the US client and again recently for a lovely champagne breakfast with the central client (same client whose karaoke leaving do I wrote about). I had the smoked salmon scrambled eggs and a side of crispy bacon and a hideous amount of champagne and orange which the client tends to term ‘Bucks Fizz’ which makes me cringe. Breakfast was good. The Eggs Benedict are supposedly to die for. And my favourite part of Bob Bob is the ‘Press for Champagne’ button just behind my seat in the little alcove where we had our party of 9. My client and colleagues told me, “Just press it!” and I did and a waitress appeared. Not really champagne but isn’t that such a marketing ploy - both “Press for service” and “Press for Champagne” yielded the same result. Unfortunately, as both occasions were client events, I couldn’t very well whip out my camera to start taking pictures of the food though I really wish I did.
