There’s [always] something about food
I have a craving for fried beef hor fun at the moment. I would have gone out to the Apium Noodle Bar, which is within walking distance of the office and serves good beef hor fun, but it’s an utterly miserable day - grey and rainy.
Last night my dad popped over to my office for Bar Night which was rather redundant because he doesn’t really drink. We hung around for about 30 minutes and then we headed to Chinatown for dinner.
So it got me thinking. EL once said that when Singaporeans gather, 60% of the conversation is about good. I think it’s not just Singaporeans, it’s Malaysians. And not just Malaysians, perhaps all Chinese? Perhaps South East Asians in general? Here in the UK, people ask, “How are you?” as a greeting; in Asia, especially with the older generation, people ask, “Have you eaten?” Gatherings take place over dinner as opposed to drinks. There’s always a makan session somewhere or a trip to the hawker centre for supper or Geylang for durians (which I hate btw).
I have a craving for beef hor fun.
