Creative writing house in Philly

Books on tiles

One of the most interesting things about my travels in the US is how I got to see each city through the eyes of friends living there. In New York, I met media and advertising types. In DC, government people. In San Francisco, software and techy people, and in Philly, my friend Daniel is a lecturer and MFA student at Rutgers who shares a house with a fellow writer/lecturer and a Masters student in writing. The house is full of gloriously quirky things, like these coasters above which are tiles with literary text on them and then varnished. I love them.

I love this lampshade and if I remember correctly, it’s from Urban Outfitters. I stood on a chair to take a picture of this.

And this is a view of the kitchen/dining area. As you can see, loads of books. I love how the red table contrasts so vividly with the blue locker-shelf.
