The Icecreamists

We didn’t plan on going to The Icecreamists, a guerilla ice cream installation only at Selfridges (at least until 1 Nov or till they move on to another location or open a permanent shop). But we were at Selfridges, in the basement, shopping and saw a small queue forming outside the entrance to a dark space. We’d known about them for a while and decided to give it a whirl since it was a temporary stall. I didn’t expect it to be a whole ice cream parlour in its own right. But contrary to the typical sweetie, pastel creamy colours, The Icecreamists are fab and funky, evil and forbidden. Customers queue in a straight line to place their orders at the ice cream bar that functions as the front desk of a club. Black walls, funky dance music, black leather sofas.

The ice cream itself isn’t that different from other gelato. It’s slightly more expensive but you’re paying for the experience and not the ice cream, really. What’s really cool is the way they’ve named their ice creams - Obamarama is the one really stands out!

If you’re in London, check it out before 1 Nov!
