Cold autumn days

Crowded and cold today. The warmer days of summer just disappear into colder autumn ones; it didn’t seem like a smooth transition this year. Even daylight seemed to have disappeared suddenly with 6 a.m. starts now shrouded in shadow.

The. 8.10 train is strangely packed though maybe there isn’t a ‘normal’ on the TFL. People in grey and black coat uniforms, expressions matching outerwear. A large lady just won herself a seat next to me; she was focused on her goal and succeeded.

On cold days like this, when you’re wrapped up warmly and it isn’t even the heart of winter yet, I wonder how I manage when the temperature gets colder. An old wives’ tale goes- if we’ve had a good summer, plenty of warmth and rain, the berries grow big and fat and juicy, indicating a tough winter ahead. According to scientists who study these things, the berries are big and fat and juicy this year. I wonder what winter will be like?

I’ve reached my stop and can now vacate my seat for the next focused competitor. Later.
