Sunday outing: a train ride to…

Coffee in hand… Sitting in the tube out of the city. Most people’s idea of leaving the city is perhaps a walk in the New Forrest or weekends in Dorset. Mine is Zone 3. Decided to go to Ealing Common (Zone 3) to check out the Japanese scene Su-Lin describes so deliciously in Tamarind & Thyme only to find out that they were on summer holiday. So we walked to Ealing Broadway and thankfully found another Jap restaurant which was good coz I was suffering from Japanese food deficiency.

We had originally meant to go to Brighton for the day before heading over to Sue & Shel’sfor dinner to escape the Notting Hill Carnival festivities (read: deafening noise and maddening crowd). But we woke up bright and early to not so ‘bright’ and an even less bright forecast in Brighton. So we ended up at Okawari. And contrary to all my pictures of food, I still don’t take pictures of all my meals. Verdict: good standard fare but ho-hum - we had a bento set with katsu and tempura, a sushi & sashimi set and a soft shelled crab.

Next stop Greenford where thereks a big shopping centre and a craft store where I can get Mod Podge so that i can start my jar lid decorating project. So though Brighton was a washout, I guess I still had my day out [of London], visiting new places such as Ealing Common and Greenford. And being on the Central Line above ground for the first time is rather an amazing experience!
