Sunday in Queen’s Park

Had a lazy late morning Sunday brunch with Leanne & Eugene and Sam at Queen’s Park. I never knew how nice the Queen’s Park high street was. A colleague told me about the weekly farmers’ market in Salusbury Primary School on Salusbury Road and I wanted to check the area out further.
The Queen’s Park market is open every Sunday from 10 - 2. It’s not a very big market, definitely not as big as Borough Market, nor does it have the variety, but it’s a wholesome family market where people in the neighbourhood (or those who don’t live there like us) can get fruit and vegetables, potted herbs, cooked food (paella and lamb burgers!) and a small selection of meats. Did I mention the fruit? I had my heart set on cherries. Leanne gave in to black currents. And Sam went mad on strawberries. We were all happy troopers as we walked away with our bags of fruit. I also bought a basil plant. I’m not very good with plants - they tend to die on me. I have resigned myself to the fact that basil is not a perenial plant and will die as the weather turns colder. However, I am trying to prolong its life and part of that plan is to keep Sir Basil indoors and away from the nasty bugs that eat basil leaves.
We also found a little nostalgic American-style diner where we had brunch, which was the reason for the meet up anyway. They had all day breakfasts which was great (I had their eggs Florentine - the one with the spinach). They had fantastic retro chalkboard with the menu printed on (too bad it wasn’t written on with chalk). They had an absolutely fabulous black & white checkerboard floor - how cool is that?

A few more Queen’s Park pictures here.
Last note: My Blackberry Tumblr program did something weird and only half of the first line was uploaded.
