Katz’s from When Harry Met Sally
Last year when I visited, walking along with Abrams (Lisa), she pointed out “Oh that’s Katz’s where they filmed the orgasm scene in When Harry Met Sally. Up till then, I hadn’t actually seen When Harry Met Sally; I thought I had but I thought wrong. So between September ‘10 and May ‘11, I actually did see the movie and it was on my list of places to visit well, just because.
Situated at 205 East Houston, it was a close walk from our hotel. We really crammed as much eating as we could into the time we had there because there was so many places to go, things to try.
Katz’s Deli is totally old school. We got in before the lunch crowd and was still pretty full from breakfast but we simply had to order something. We picked something off the menu to share but our waitress, bless her, said to us in that typical New York accent “You want to try the pastrami…”
So we tried the pastrami:
And would you look at that! It was utterly, unbelievably delicious, more so that words can describe. Succulent, juicy, salty, peppery.
Sheryl and I totally shared the monster sandwich but since I’d be on planes (to Santa Fe via Detroit) and in airports for the next 8 hours, I decided to get a(nother) pastrami to go, for the road. It was a good idea actually, coz by the time I reached Santa Fe, it was 10pm at night.
Über happy I managed to make it to Katz this trip and heeded the waitress’s advice to get the pastrami. Go. Eat. You will not be sorry.
