The longest Saturday of the year…

How uncanny! I was searching online yesterday for a greasy spoon diner where we could have breakfast today before taking in the Diane Arbus exhibition at the Timothy Taylor (20 May - 27 June 09 - so hurry!) gallery. While doing so, I came across a mention of Postcard Teas. So imagine my surprise when I came across Postcard Teas in the flesh as we walked from the main Diane Arbus Gallery to the 2nd exhibition! We didn’t go in but I had to take a photo!

Breakfast was scambled eggs with smoked salmon from Le Pain Quotidien. The three of us ended up ordering the same thing! Sam was a little late for breakfast but he had lovely morsels from The Taste of London to feast on later on. The exhibition was enjoyable; it had all the plus points that for me, make a great exhibition: Enjoyable subject matter - I like photos (as opposed to paintings), I like B&W, I like portraits. Bite-sized chunks - there were about 20 photos in the main gallery and about 15 in the smaller one. It was quiet - there’s nothing worse than feeling as if you’re being shuffled along with another 50 people in the isle, waiting for your 5 seconds of viewing. The Vatican Museum, by far, was my worse museum experience.

We had some time before lunch with Julia and Sue so we went shopping and bought some cushions, amongst other things! Lunch was at Kiasu (yes, it’s open again). And then we trooped to another flat viewing: it was horrible - going for £340,000, the living room was boxy and small, the 2nd bedroom was a tiny hole in the wall (you couldn’t put a single bed in it let alone a double), the bathroom an odd triangle shape, and the bathrub/sink section and the toilet section on opposite sides of the kitchen. Utterly horrible.

I have successfully baked my 14” carrot cake! Yay! It’s almost midnight now so I don’t think I’ll end up frosting the cake. But I’d like to cut it in half to check that it’s done. It’s looking very good!

Tomorrow’s the longest day of the year! We’ll be going to Evonne’s for a BBQ - note to self: buy something to drink and BBQ.
