Lunch at Nihon Mura Kaiten Sushi

It was a rainy afternoon and I decided to join my parents for lunch nearby (Balestier Point no less) for a spot of Japanese. My parents had been to Nihon Mura Kaiten Sushi a couple of times and thought the food was yummy (the sashimi was fresh & juicy) and they had a really good value lunch offer (3 items for $8.90++) so since I wasn’t due to do anything till 3pm, I said sure!

Here’s a pic of my parents walking there. I thought they contrasted so adorably - red tee shirt and red capris, blue denim jeans and denim bag.

My dad and I love sashimi and chawanmushi so that’s what we both ordered. The sashimi was really fresh and delish. The three slices only made you want more but I reminded myself that there was more to come. The chawanmushi wasn’t fantastic. Texture was nice and fine but lacked depth in the way it tasted. I don’t think they bothered with dashi stock for the egg mixture.

Katsu don. But of course. This is the dish that stared my foray into Japanese cuisine way back when I was 15 having lunch with Natasha at Paragon. Back then I didn’t eat any seaweed and would always have to remind them not to put any. Nowadays I wolf it down. Generous portions of katsu, egg and mushroom and rice. I’m thinking about eating some right now!

Mom decided to skip the set and order some ramen - yaniniku ramen. The beef was seasoned incredibly with sliced onions that still had a little crunch despite being caramalized.

The three of us were completely stuffed after lunch which only came up to $33 for the three of us. That’s a pretty good deal for lunch. Nihon Mura’s quite busy during lunch, drawing the nearby office crowd I think. It’s on the 4th floor of the shopping mall on the same level as the cinema.
