Asakusa for Japanese
Asakusa is one of my favourite Japanese restaurants. Situated on Eversholt Road, just a few doors down from Mornington Crescent tube, it’s now a stone’s throw away and I happily hopped out for takeaway. Unfortunately they weren’t doing donbori takeaways nor sushi/sashimi but the tonkatsu set was very good. Check it out if you’re in the area but make a reservation because...

Ginger sausages with carrot salad
Ling was over for lunch yesterday and I needed to whip up a salad for the vegetarian and had limited ingredients in the fridge. I ended up making a carrot salad which turned out really (and unexpectedly) yummy. here’s what I put in it. Carrots, julienned - I used a peeler for this. Green chilli, sliced thinly Tomatoes, chopped Avocado, chopped Olive oil Salt & pepper to taste Leave...

Exercising
I rather enjoy pilates. Did my first session when I was with Team P&G and last year when I quit the gym (LA Fitness has terrible customer service: they raised my monthly membership fee by 20% and did not inform me at all) I signed up for a 10-class membership at The Happiness Centre. The Happiness Centre is a humble little well-being centre with a cozy homely feel. The owner makes you feel...

Easter holidays so far
This Easter holiday here will be my last for a while I guess. :) The days have been incredibly hot and respite comes in a glass of Pimms & Lemonade. I’ve been up for almost three hours; my mind’s racing. My MBP stopped working last night. I can’t seem to power it up. The Apple Store is closed today. I’m guessing that very little is open today and I feel really cut...

Kitchen woes
Photo © William Lingwood. I’ve been speaking to my dad about ovens but the reality of it hit me today, just actually, midway through browsing Williams Sonoma and Le Creuset for a frittata pan. Of course every girl needs a frittata pan, right? I mean, it’s absolutely essential. I’d only recently seen a frittata pan up close on the food shoot with William Lingwood. I left a part...

All about shoes
I’ve shipped a bunch (and I am understating my love of shoes here) of stuff back to Singapore and what’s on my mind right now is - will I be able to find shoes in Singapore? I mean, of course I will be. But will I like the styles? Will they been to cheena (see 3rd on the list) now that I am sufficiently sophisticated and ‘of the world’ having spent four and a half years in...

Sucking pig at Red Star
Went to Red Star Chinese restaurant (Chin Swee Road I think) when I was back in December with Twinnie and we racked up $80 worth of dim sum for two which could have fed three very comfortably. The stars of the lunch were the roast meats. Roast duck and siew yoke are great in London (think Four Seasons Chinatown branch only and Gold Mine Bayswater; give Four Seasons Bayswater a wide berth as...

Celi & Paula
I shot Celi (mom) and Paula last week in their gorgeous flat in Bayswater/Queensway. Celi wanted some pictures that she could blow up for her husband’s birthday of her and baby Paula and mentioned it to Caroline. When she saw Caroline’s pics, she decided to engage my services. Babies are a bundle of joy and all that, they’re extremely cute when they’re smiley. But...

Food shoot
I was really lucky to have had the opportunity to be on a real food shoot last week with William Lingwood. It was a truly fun shoot with an art director and a “home economist” - she’s the one who made all the lovely food that we shot (and subsequently ate)! I understand the principles of food lighting much more than that of beauty and I liked the “realness” of the...

Bacon & mushroom quiche
I was inspired to make a quiche (again) by Give Me Flour. As part of my good bag from the food shoot, I walked home happily with shortcrust pastry, hence the quiche; my friend Caroline prefers puff pastry for her quiches. Anyway, I know this is a little cheat coz the pastry wasn’t made from scratch but I am not a pastry girl. I find kneading and rolling out dough tedious so at least I...

Scrambled eggs and rocket on toasted seed loaf
Last week I was on a shoot, a food shoot! I can’t say what it’s for and this picture is not from the shoot. This was this morning’s breakfast. As I usually find these days, the sun wakes me up and when I see gorgeous blue skies, it just makes me exceedingly happy. Because I got a goody bag of groceries after the shoot, I decided to make myself a little breakfast. It was good! I...

Food for Thought
I’ve got four aunts on my dad’s side of the family and I’m very close to that side of the family. (For those of you who might not know, I’m not at all close to my mom’s side of the family.) One of said four aunts supplies/supplied cakes at a cafe/restaurant called Food for Thought so we decided to head there for dinner one night as it’s near my cousin’s...

Happy Meal
I am happy today. The sun is shining and the sky is blue. My boxes have been delivered and I am sipping rosé cava in a gorgeous light filled flat in London. Today’s lunch was meant to be guacamole (with bacon) on toast but my avocado turned bad so I fried up some leeks and tomatoes and topped my toast with that. Yummeh!

On Portobello Road
I’ve known Eric since we climbed Mt K together in April 2004 (I had to check. Photos on Flickr.) And then when I was working on the Mercedes-Benz account at Batey, Eric was in Sales & Marketing at Daimler-Chrysler. Eric’s been working in Germany for the last few months and made it to London a few weeks ago and our first stop was Portobello Road. Here are a few pictures form that...

Caroline, Thierry & Felix
Sometime last August before Caroline had Felix, I did some pregnant shots of her. Then when Felix was about 6 weeks old, I went over and did more shots. Now as I prepare to leave London, I really wanted to give them something of me that money can’t buy so on Saturday, I went over and did a shoot for the three of them together as a family as I’ve noticed that usually, either Thierry...
