Inspired
Eating ice cream in Singapore is a real treat because it’s so damned hot here! It’s my 2nd last day (and actually my last night) here and at 11 pm, I decided that I wanted to buy a pint of Earl Grey tea ice cream from Udders - my new fave ice cream parlour that has gorgeous alcoholic flavours; their Baileys & Bourbon tastes really of Baileys and Bourbon. I’ve found a few...

A day in my holiday
I’m in The Coffee Club at Raffles City, sipping my Iced Earl Vanilla - something that I love, isn’t available in any other cafe that I’ve been to, SG & London - I love.
I’m sitting next to two Singaporean girls who are talking loudly enough for me to overhear their entire conversation, spoken in gramatically correct English but with that sing-song Singaporean lit. This...

No words. Now.
I can’t speak. I can’t write. So here are some pictures of food and people - the stuff that a good holiday makes!
Kitty Kat and I at TCC, Plaza Sing extension. It was a very hot day, but what’s new?

How many years?
I used to work for a charity. It was a less than desirable experience but it did get me into the door of advertising (my love/hate relationship). This time I’ve only managed to meet up with Adrie who’s turned out to be my wedding planning life saver, after having planned and executed one recently and in banquet sales. Whoop for friends!

Old Batey
Breakfast was at Spinelli’s, an old favourite haunt of Jude’s and mine when we were working at Batey - we’d come in early and get a mocha, or look at our watches at 4 and get a mocha. I liked chocolate chip muffins and she loved blueberry and banana.

Mmmmm ice cream at Udders
Sue Ern doesn’t like to drive into town. Who can blame her? So she drove to Novena and it’s a win-win coz it’s near enough me and I don’t need to change multiple trains to get home. We had Japanese pasta (a restaurant that I’d never had before even though it’s been there for a long time!) and then we walked over to United Square for ice cream. I had Earl...

New
Singapore changes so quickly; it has been my mission this trip to try to visit new places. And Jones the Grocer was one of them. A slightly more difficult venue to get to if one doesn’t have access to a car, Joel and I went there after a spat of shopping with Lydia (ack! I didn’t take a photo) where I bought a bag and a pair of shoes from Charles & Keith. Coffee was yum but a...

Best friends, food and general chilling out
The best thing about being home for a holiday is that I know the place. There isn’t a need to be a tourist which is quite relaxing. Of course, the fact that the last few days have been jam packed with activity means that I only get down time at night (like now) when everyone in the house is asleep.
After reunion dinner on the eve and family visits (to my 2nd fave grandma’s then my...
Hot, hot, hot
I arrived in Singapore just over 24 hours ago, just in time for CNY reunion dinner with my parents, brother, favourite grandma and 2nd favourite grandma/grandpa. Last night was hot and sticky, especially after being stuck in a plane full of b-r-a-t-s. The most annoying ones were the toddler-age and belows, bellowing their lungs out on the plane, rendering an otherwise decent flight home,...

Thoroughly fascinating
I have never liked history but there are some things steeped in history that I find absolutely fascinating. The Pillars of the Earth. Fiction, yes. But based on history in a relate-able way. From that book, I understood the role of religion that the early church in England wielded as a means of control and profit generation. The role of the nobles and ownership of land. And the rise of politics.

Difficult
Only 5 full days til my flight back home, but I anticipate this week to be one of the more (most?) difficult weeks that I’ve had to deal with in a rather long time. Words fail me.

A healthy dinner
Breakfast yesterday was English - fried eggs, bacon, and toast. Maybe it was the bacon, but it felt kinda stodgy, heavy. So for dinner, we were really keen on something lighter, healthier, and easy to make. At least I was keen on the easy to make bit.
I’d bought some pickled herring in garlic in a jar at Ikea earlier in the day so out the pickled herring came, along with some salad we...

Chocolate macarons with vanilla bean butter cream
I made macarons. Not recently, these were made just before New Year’s this year. I also made chocolate truffles. I’ve since lost track of the number of times I’ve made macarons but the ones that don’t attempt to be fruity seem to be my best. These were made from actual vanilla beans from vanilla pods and it’s the first time I’ve done anything with vanilla....
Movie day
Today was another stay-at-home day. I’m not coughing so much or sneezing every other second but I am very phlegmy and am still running a temperature. I think I might have a lung infection as I’ve had bronchitis before and this feels a little like it. So today was a day of movies starting with a Julie & Julia re-run (as in it’s a movie I’ve seen before), Baby Mama (I...
Hot cocoa
… I don’t have any, but I’d really love some right now. And not the instant ‘add water’ hot chocolate but hot cocoa with milk, cocoa powder and sugar, from scratch.
It’s my 2nd day holed up even though I did leave the flat for 15 minutes to go to the supermarket for some bread and stuff. I washed a load of laundry and hung the clothes up but that was the extent...
