Paris
Two days in Paris with my cousin Steffy. I am excited, finally. I haven’t been looking forward to this trip till now. It will be good to spend time with family and Paris has always been good to me. How many times have I been? I lose count - 10, 11, 20, 23, in 2008 and now as 2010 comes to a close. I know there will be more; I have yet to make Paris my own.
Sometimes I think I may be a...
No rest for the wicked
I’m at Evonne’s tonight as out’s a short 10 minute walk from King’s Cross station where I’ll catch the first train out of London to Paris. I’m on their iPad - it is cool :) I guess it does serve a different function from the iPhone. It’s quite nice to type an on a larger keyboard. This is my first extended period of time on one and I think I like it.

Cold and snow tomorrow
This is my 5th winter in London and my inability to take the cold never ceases to amaze me. Tomorrow when I leave, I’m taking with me two layers of Heat Tech plus Heat Tech socks! I now wish I had Heat Tech leggings as well.
I have a shoot tomorrow. The model is the daughter of an ex-colleague and absolutely stunning. The look is 60s mod, plus we’re going to do a few beauty close...

Thanks to Sam for sending the link.
Cake and coffee
It’s so cold today. I an waiting for my next appointment with coffee and cake (I so totally make better carrot cake; this tasted like fruitcake). Just before, I took shelter in a bookstore where the heating was on high. Nice.
The different seasons aren’t so bad when you have a purpose and a goal. It marks the passing if time. But when you’re drifting, the cold and grey feels...

I myself am not a dream.
Cut off as I am, it is inevitable that I should sometimes feel like a shadow walking in a shadowy world. When this happens I ask to be taken to New York City. Always I return home weary but I have the comforting certainty that mankind is real flesh and I myself am not a dream.

Charlize & Orlando do Uniqlo
Uniqlo seems to be getting bigger and bigger, better and better. I’ve worn their Heat Tech for a while now and this is my 3rd winter with them. This year, Uniqlo’s advertising budget seems to have exploded with Charlize and Orlando being the face of Heat Tech. I love the shots. They’re obvious studio shots but I like the way the snow drifts onto them, especially on...

What I listen to
Sometimes when people ask me what I listen to I feel like a freak because the music that I listen to isn’t quite what other people listen to. Like right now, I’m listening to the compositions of John Rutter, possibly my favourite composer. I like “All Things Bright and Beautiful” and “Open Thou Mine Eyes” and “The Music’s Always There.” I love...

Apparently someone read my previous blog post of “Tag! You’re IT!” and said through the grapevine, “I wonder who she’s playing tag with?”
Oh-kay. Like seriously. So, if you are still wondering what this is about, leave a comment with your email address and I’ll get back to you. Otherwise you can fucking mind your own business and I hardly use the F word.

Tag! You’re IT!
3am again
Man, it’s another 3am (or later!) night for me. It’s raining and it’s kinda cold. I’m tired, my eyes are tired, but I’m not the least bit sleepy. I miss staying up late like I used to back home. The nights are more welcoming. At least night is night at night, and night isn’t night at 4.

Boston butterscotch brownies
I was feeling down yesterday and in the spirit of Julia Child and Julie Powell, I decided to bake. I needed something easy to make that would give me the time to play around with styling for photos hence the brownie. I’ve used this basic recipe since I was about 15; the tweak this time was adding in butterscotch morsels that I bought in San Francisco.
If you live near me, please...

Caroline & Felix
Salut petit Felix!
Rana and I did a photo shoot for Caroline when she was about 8 months pregnant. She loved the photos! And now there’s Felix!
I was over at Caroline’s a couple of weeks ago and took these new photos of the two of them. The meaning of “Felix” in Belgian culture is “celebration.”
I love this “smiling-in-my-dreams”...

Thai basil pork stir fry
This was dinner tonight and it’s a really simple dish. First, make the stir fry sauce. I used 2 tablespoons of oyster sauce, 2 tablespoons of fish sauce, 3 tablespoons of light soya sauce, 1 teaspoon of dark brown sugar, 1 teaspoon of dark soya sauce, and 3 tablespoons of lemon juice (coz I didn’t have lime).
Slice the onions, garlic and chilli. Fry the garlic and chilli till...

It's my city
“Just relax and realise that everything people say about New York is true. (Somewhere.) It’s the cleanest, dirtiest, warmest, most theme-parky, gritty, welcoming, elegant, least friendly place you’ll every be. And every billboard you read, every store you slow down to browse, every street you walk, and every bite you take will offer another clue to the city. It’s too big to know all there...
Tout ceci est savoir vivre
Le jour où je me suis aimé pour de vrai, j’ai compris qu’en toutes circonstances, J’étais à la bonne place, au bon moment. Et, alors, j’ai pu me relaxer. Aujourd’hui je sais que ça s’appelle estime de soi.
The day that I truly loved myself, I understood that in all circumstances, I was at the right place, at the right time. And so I could relax. Today, I know this is called self esteem.

A good start to the day!
Over the summer I was really into breakfast. This and this - my favourite breakfasts: greek yoghurt with honey and fresh fruit and sunflower seeds. Since returning from New York, I’ve not been paying enough attention to breakfast. This is what I had for breakfast today. Hot chocolate and nutella on bread.
I spent an hour this morning just lying in bed thinking about stuff. Stuff...
My friend Daniel
My friend Daniel just pinged me on MSN to tell me that the photo I took of him is on the front page of the Rutgers-Camden website. I don’t know how long it’ll be up there so here’s a screen grab of the front page (top image). The second image is another screen grab from the actual article. I’m really happy Daniel was pleased with the pictures. Here’s my pick and...
And a tiny voice cried out...
“I am still here.”
Hopes and dreams still live, barely, amid the fear and doubt in this dark, weary soul. My eyes have grown accustom to the darkness. Any fleck of light no matter how small hurts. But it is light that I need and light to burst through. It is my redemption from myself.
It doesn’t matter how slowly you go-so long as you do not stop.

Cold feet
So I now have a calling card which I’m pretty much very happy with. I’ve bought the domain name www.kayhui.com - it hasn’t been set up yet so don’t bother checking that site out. I want to put in a holding page while I get the site designed but I don’t know how to do that. Most people think I’m so savvy when it comes to techy things and while I think I’m...
