Sunday outing: a train ride to...
Coffee in hand… Sitting in the tube out of the city. Most people’s idea of leaving the city is perhaps a walk in the New Forrest or weekends in Dorset. Mine is Zone 3. Decided to go to Ealing Common (Zone 3) to check out the Japanese scene Su-Lin describes so deliciously in Tamarind & Thyme only to find out that they were on summer holiday. So we walked to Ealing Broadway and...

National Day celebrations
Celebrated my 3rd year in London a little while ago. Since I left on National Day, I figured “celebrating” by way of a pub lunch would be apt. It was a last minute thing and we were pretty much scrambling to make a booking for lunch at 1!
Somewhat pricey for a pub lunch but it was a gastropub after all; one of the best pub lunches I’ve ever had in my life. I skipped the...

Food posts
Bumped into a colleague of mine (today? yesterday?) whom I used to work with quite closely but not lately. There was the usualy small talk, quite normal I suppose. She commented, “you write a lot about food.” I guess there’s a fair bit about food and I love taking pictures of food. In the same way, I’m always curious when people keep taking pictures of themselves at...
Vegetarianism
I am not a vegetarian. Or a vegan. Or a pescatarian. How many more of these “arianisms’ there are I haven’t a clue but I’m not one of them!
So we were having a discussion on the social implications and ettiquette of vegetarianism.
When inviting a vegetarian over for a meal the host should ensure a non-meat option is available. But what about the reverse? Should the...
Still obsessed
Who’d have thought that buying a few books on Amazon was that difficult? I haven’t gone off my Julie (Powell) & Julia (Child) obsession yet and still gaze longingly at that picture of the dinner party, which reinforces my newfound need for a garden even if it would only be used 3 months out of the year. Anyway, I finally bought my two books. I spent loads of time searching and...
Only I would think it too hot
Met Ben’s girlfriend on Sunday. Can’t work out what ethnicity she is but I think Indian. I was really tired yesterday and really didn”t feel like going out; sometimes I shy away from meeting new people because I can usually size up a person pretty quickly and decide if I like him/her or not. I’m really happy we got along. She had spunk and character, was interesting to talk...
How sweet it is...
… to hang out with people that are so nice, normal, and lacking in political ambitions!! I’m sure we have our aspirations but it is so nice!!! We went out to a nice chic outdoor pub after work today to celebrate a team member’s birthday. A bottle of champagne and a bottle of wine over getting-to-know-yous… People talking animatedly about food!!
I am again amazed by people...
I love
… entertaining… Having friends over… Lots of food and drink. I love dinner parties at home more than going out most of the time. That’s coz you can eat and drink and relax and have a great time generally relatively inexpensively. You prepare most of the food and friends bring a bottle of wine over. You don’t have to divvy up the bill at the end of the evening.
I...
Open
One of the things that I simply can’t get my head around is how ‘late night shopping’ means that the shops close at about 8 (possibly 9) on Thursday, and just one day a week. Weekdays, most shops are closed by about 7:30. Saturdays 6:30 or 7. Sundays 5 or 6.
The people who live on state (council) hand outs funded by working, tax paying individuals are the ones who get to...
Karma
Daisy, I shall thus name her, has not been having a good time with another person - let’s call her Venus. She claims to have been verbally abused beyond reason by Venus. Of course I believe her. The sweet scent of satisfaction lies in knowing that what Daisy inflicted on me, she’s getting back more intensely.
Is it wrong to gloat? I suppose it’s human nature. But at the same...

Two weeks of toothpaste
What brand/type of toothpaste do you use? Is toothpaste a low involvement of high involvement product for you? Back home, I never used anything other than Colgate, whatever the variant. Lot of people use Darlie (which used to be known as Darkie toothpaste - here’s a Wiki on the history of Darlie/Darkie) back home but they tended to be the more cheena target segment, something I was keen to...
