While you were...
Well, while most Singaporeans were at Hampton Court Palace yesterday partaking of the free gastronomic spoils at Singapore Day, I was down by the South London. It was a beautiful day so we decided to take the Thames Clipper from Brunswick Quays back to Central London.
It’s £5 for a single journey with 1/3 off Oyster holders and since it was such a beautiful day we hopped and got off at...
American Idol in the UK
For the past 5-6 weeks I’ve been really following the journey of American Idol hopefuls as they sangs their hearts out. Every Thursday night I’d head home and make dinner and sit in front of the telly, cheering and clapping; on Friday, I’d watch and wait and try to predict who’d be kicked off! The last 2 episodes of so, I’ve been wondering about the calls-to-vote on...
Perpetual Crap (PC). Horrid Pain (HP).
Microsoft’s been advertising heavily recently, lots of “lifestyle” brand ads, trying to be warm and witting, trying to be everything to everyone. “I’m a PC.” Well, I’m not. I haven’t been a “PC” since early 2003. I’ve been a Mac evangelist for a good 6 years and have converted many of my friends. So I am not looking forward to my...

Victoria line tube stike on 22 April
Here’s a link to an article in The London Paper. At least the strike is not about TFL workers demanding more money. I just renewed my season ticket. Well, renew somehow implies that the cost is the same. This is quite obviously not the case as the 2009 price is 6% (or £68) above 2008, which was 4.31% (or £40) above 2007. TFL prices are really exhorbitant! So imagine the glee when I handed...

Tie a [pink] ribbon round
A few weeks ago, I saw a tree ornament for the first time. I was fascinated. Just over the weekend, I saw two more little red nd white woven ribbon and bits of string tied to the twigs of pink and white blossom trees. The ornaments look too similar; I doubt it’s just for fun or a coincidence. It must mean something. It looks rather Oriental to me. If anyone knows what these ornaments...

More business!
A few days ago I blogged about my first cake making deal; I have named a price which has been accepted. And I have also accepted a wedding photography gig (same wedding) which was negotiated just £50 down from what I’d asked for. I’m quite happy to do it since she is my ex big boss and besides the experience, it’d be nice to do something for her since she’s helped me so...

Carrot cake and the why
So here’s a picture of the dry run. The week before when I brought the black forest cake to the office, we had a mini party to celebrate Jo’s birthday and one of the revellers was my previous big boss. She turned to me when she was eating the cake and said, “Kay, you can make my wedding cake!” and that has really turned into us agreeing on a carrot cake with lemon cream...

Dinner!
For those who know me, I’m very much a hot food person. A sandwich + crisps lunch day after day at work doesn’t cut it with me. And if I’m home for dinner, give me hot food! Today’s dinner was not just temperature-hot, it was chili-hot.
Roast chicken marinate with you favourite savoury marinade overnight. I’d avoid any sweet-savoury type marinades like honey. Roast...

My new free Leica carry case
There was an offer on the Leica UK website when I bought my D-Lux4 - a free leather case. All that was needed was to post in the guaranty card and proof of purchase. I bought mine at Jacob’s and waited almost 3 months to get it done, by which the offer had disappeared from the Leica website, so I called up Leica. Apparently the cases are now given away at point of purchase through...
@ home
It’s yet another grey day today and I’m home in my PJs and furry slippers, eating breakfast at 12:30. I’m not feeling so well today, have a slight sore throat and runny nose. Last night I went to bed with a fever and this morning I woke up with it still.
It was Good Friday yesterday. I was rather surprised that apparently 70% of Brits don’t know the meaning of Easter; they...

The door
This is Alice’s on Portobello Road. There are lots of fun, antique-y things inside; you meander through the shop elbow-to-elbow sandwiched between a wooden rocking horse on one side and metal pails on the other, there’s hardly any space to turn around. But it’s all good fun.
Because Portobello’s so crowded on Saturdays, it’s impossible to take a picture of this...

Las Palmeras in Stockwell
Met Sue and Sheldon for dinner on Saturday after a trip to the Surrey Quays area. We thought it’d be good to go see their new flat as it was 2-bedroom place in a totally different part of London. We didn’t really like the wider neighbourhood though the immediate streets were really nice and homey. As we were walking towards the tube station, a skin head and his pudgy middle-aged goth...

Lurpak: Saturday is breakfast day
I love the insight that inspired this ad.
Some thoughts and sun
I wrote an email to a friend last night; I think it was after yesterday’s post. My friend replied while I was sleeping and shared some of life’s lessons and advised me to just enjoy the little things in life that I enjoy.
Work went by quickly today although not much transpired. I didn’t get any intranet help messages and hardly anyone was around for some reason. I left work at 5...
Those who have
It’s really easy for those who have to say that it is about the sentiment behind a gift, blessing, or good thing. If I were given a house, it’d be very easy to say that it’s not about the house, it’s the thought. That’s coz I already have the house and what I say isn’t going to change that. One can be happy without, but would be happier with. I know it sounds a...
