Taste London Christmas Food Fair
A few weeks ago, we went to the Taste London Christmas Fair. We bought ‘crowns’ to exchange for food. We ate lamb cutlets and pork belly, gelato and macarons. Watched cooking demonstrations and saw Olly Smith tease the chefs. It was very fortunate that we’d won free tickets and only had to pay to buy crowns.
At the fair, we went to a talk by British master chocolatier...

Brunch at The Diner on Ganton Street
I am absolutely a brunch person and it was great to catch up with Prema (and shopping of course) over Brunch at The Diner on Ganton Street. Prema needed to get a gown for a ball and I hadn’t had enough of shopping despite having shopped Boxing Day and the next day. She had the idea of getting a long cheongsam in lieu of a ball gown and we headed to Chinatown after a brunch of Eggs...
Dreams & aspirations on Christmas Day
While not saying outright what my dreams and aspirations are, I’m starting on one of my 2010 resolutions this Christmas which involves clearing out my wardrobe. In three short years, I have accumulated a somewhat non-small wardrobe despite what people think (some may think it’s too big and some may think it’s too small) and I think it’s time to start thinking more...

Places to go when I'm back in Singapore
In anticipation of a trip back home, I’m doing the Singaporean thing and planning meet ups with friends around new and exciting (and some old and much loved) foodie places. My list at the moment is short because after having been away for a total of 3 years (my goodness how time flies) I’m more familiar with where to go and what to eat in London than I am back home.
Hatched 26 Evans...

Winding down
I’ve been pretty much the only person in the office the last couple of days. I had company (and help) today but I was pretty much fending off fiends on my own. It’s also been a rather tiring few days because I haven’t been sleeping very well. I keep waking up at night. I dreamt of talking horses one night and I think there might have been a dream about Vietnam at some point....
Currently listening to: Queen's Don't Stop Me Now
What a night. I never. Dance. At all. More specifically, firstly I hate clubs and I will usually never ever willingly go to a club. And secondly to dance, why, I’ve probably ever only loved dancing twice - once at the M&C office party where Melvin DJ’d with multiple ipods connected to speakers and we played 80s cheesy tunes, disco music that everyone new the lyrics to and could...
Gershwin
There’s a saying old says that love is blind, Still we’re often told, “Seek and ye shall find.” So I’m going to seek a certain lad I’ve had in mind.
Looking everywhere, haven’t found him yet; He’s the big affair I cannot forget. Only man I ever think of with regret.
I’d like to add his initials to my monogram. Tell me, where is the shepherd...

Churros y chocolate
I didn’t have much time in Madrid. I keep saying that. But I’m really glad I managed to find my way to Chocolateria San Gines for churros and chocolate, according to my Top 10 Madrid guide book, the best place for them. I was not disappointed with the exception that I didn’t order more than I did!

Spanish dogs & Anton Martin
Outside a grocery store, tied to each other, waiting for their owner to arrive.
It was a Sunday and some of the smaller scale mom & pop stores were closed. I was walking from Puerto de Sol towards Anton Martin on my way to meet Milli when these photo opportunities presented themselves. The dogs - I always remember my dad telling me that once upon a time in Sydney, when he was a young...

It snowed today
View from my office window. it was snowing, small powdery flakes of white snow. Only to melt on the ground to become grey water. We pressed our noses to the glass and stared outside and for a moment, became as little kids again enthralled by the white fluff gently floating outside.

Trading in Madrid
Madrid is a flurry of traders. Street performers, stall vendors, balloon sellers; lots of people competing for your attention and for your euro.
Couple puppeteer the Beatles.
A shoe shine man on the street, quite a common site, with his wooden shoe shine box of tricks.
I have no idea what he’s advertising but he sure is eye-catching! Please pardon the multiple puns! If anyone knows...

Random stuff at home in London
Voodoo doll, quite large - about 8”tall - from Thailand from my twinnie. It does have a name but it’s not named after anyone in particular, if you were worried. When I first got it, even I was a little freaked out by it but it’s become part of the flat now and works well to stop the door from slamming.
Russian Matryoshka dolls. But these are special. They’re also...

Autumn in Madrid
Sure, it’s “the continent,” that’s why they call it “Continental Europe” and sure it’s just that bit further south. Sunny skies and more obedient weather really does help lift one’s mood, even if it’s a touch chilly. I left London’s naked trees and grey skies and was pleasantly surprised to hear on the in-flight announcements that it...
Christmas lights at home
Once in a while I get creative and embark on random little DIY projects. I’m still decorating my jar lids but I’ve exhausted my current supply of jar lids and obtaining new ones is proving a little more challenging, especially when they have to be the right kind with jar shapes that I want to keep. So welcome to DIY ping pong Christmas lights. I would have loved to have actual...

A walk in the Parc del Buen Retiro
First stop on my second tourist day was the Parc del Buen Retiro. I woke up early, had breakfast and then took the metro to Retiro. It was a beautiful day so I took lots of photos.
The sun was shining and the sky was blue with not a cloud in sight. I remember smiling and feeling absolutely happy as I walked through the park entrance, as if there wasn’t a care in the world. Time...

Plaza Mayor
I spent my first day wondering around Madrid somewhat aimlessly. It was a little stressful knowing that I only had 2 days to explore Madrid and I was really worried that I wouldn’t have enough time to see everything I wanted to. And of course it wasn’t enough time to see everything!
It was rather cloudy and grey the on day #1 and I spent most of the day finding my bearings. I...

Mad for Madrid
Madrid was 9 days ago. And I’m still thinking about how lovely it was there. With the sun shining (on Sunday anyway) and intense blues skies. I took about 450 pictures in 2 days, trigger happy with my Dlux4 and my G1 with the Nokton lens.
It was a very hurriedly planned trip; I had intended to buy a guide book and plan out my limited 2 days in Madrid but that didn’t happen so at the...
