Bob Bob Ricard - a restaurant review in words
Went to a client dinner about two weeks ago. We’d initially booked to go to The Club Bar & Dining but a colleague decided it was unacceptable due to a 100% bad review - 1 bad review out of a grand total of 1 review. I think he secretly wanted to go to Bob Bob Ricard - an English restaurant and one which apparently was “old school advertising.” No surprises. I had a smoked...

Ending the week with an evening with Art & Copy...
Where I left off, I was headed to Madrid and using the wireless in the BA lounge. It’s been a hectic week since then, sightseeing Saturday and Sunday, working Monday and Tuesday with a fever and cold, Addison Lee screwing up my car back from Heathrow, a run in with a supplier colleague, dinner with the Spanish & Portuguese clients, editing Malaysia, editing China, editing Iberia,...

waiting in a lounge
Considering how much this business class ticket was, you’d expect beter food at the BA lounge. We had tasteless mushroom on a white roll and bacon on a white roll. I ate the filling - regretted eating the tasteless mushrooms - and left 3 rolls. Going to down my juice and head to the departure lounge now.

A short bus ride to Camden, enjoying the blues...
Camden. It’s still different from high street shopping but the shops are becoming less goth sub-culture and more accessible to the masses. It’s still a great day to spend an afternoon especially when accompanied by a short bus ride in a double decker bus with blue skies and sunshine. Mulled wine, the signifier of a change in seasons. A great pick me up when you’re out and...

On such a winter's day
It’s winter. Sunset today was at 4:12 pm, which means that I didn’t leave the flat till dusk! I get cabin fever very easily. Even when I’m ill, I generally need to go out. Today’s the 1st Sat in a very long time that hasn’t been taken up with flat viewings in the morning. Of course, not everything’s smooth sailing on that front either but… So...

10 things about me
My baby fingers are slightly crooked, bent at the last bone joint. It’s a paternal family trait. So is baking. 3 out of my 4 aunts bake beautifully. One’s not that interested. My mom says that she used to bake. My dad says otherwise. My grandmother is the cool. She’s 91, owns a digital camera, a couple of mp3 players, and a digital voice recorder. She takes nice pictures when...

Green tea mousse cake made specially for Winnie's...
We celebrated Winnie’s birthday in Greenwich last Saturday. It was a house party, different from any her previous parties that I’d been to which have always been parties at bars. Winnie said that she’d have canapes but I didn’t realise that she’d have a fridge full! I baked her a green tea mousse cake. I’m very happy with the outcome of the cake, everyone...

Really winter
Heat tech - check. Beret - check. Scarf - check. I think it must have rained last night. The ground still has traces of damp on it. Much of the leaves dropped off their branches last night covering the ground in specs of brown and yellow. The sky this morning is unusually foggy - a lingering sign of last night’s temperature dip to -8 in some parts of the country. My fingers are freezing. ...

Meat-free lunch
One of the rituals I made at fat camp was to eat more vegetables; specifically, I was going to have two vegetarian meals a week. I think I get enough protein so I figured that two veggie meals a week shouldn’t be too difficult. But for someone who loves meat, it is actually not easy. Meet yesterday’s meat-free lunch. Grilled halloumi, aubergine and tomatoes with olive drizzled olive...

Excellent Italian
Another day, another Taste London experience. Sue, Sheldon, Andrew and I met up for drinkies at the Thursday bar night at my office. Followed by what’s important - dinner. We went to Terra Nostra on the Old Bailey; we’d passed by so many times coz we used to live in the vicinity but we never went till now. We ordered: The Piatto Degustazione - a platter for two of tuna tartar...

Glove & coffee weather
Brrr… It’s really cold today. I had my winter coat (the grey one with a ruffled collar that Sei says looks Dior - seriously, I wouldn’t have any idea) and a cable knit cardigan under, and then a long sleeved top. With those, I was alright in the cold and the wind, waiting for the blasted bus to arrive, and to arrive a good 30-40 minutes overdue. My fingers were really cold though...

Lille: in colour
The apartment that we stayed in for 3 days when we were in Lille. It was ‘service’ I suppose, and concierged, but it was pretty much a dump and not very comfortable but it was a budget holiday and we didn’t really have much time to search for hotels. This building is Euraille, and there are many individual blocks of apartments that collectively make up the housing wing of the...

No coffee
The clocks turned forwards/backwards (I never know which happens when) last week and now dusk comes earlier and the sun sets earlier each day. Today’s been a windy, rainy, grey day and I haven’t ventured out of the flat. Not even for coffee. We made coffee but homemade coffee from a cafetiere isn’t the same as coffee from a professional coffee machine. (We used to have a full...
