Itsu Chicken Teriyaki Noodles [a review]
Had Itsu’s chicken teriyaki noodles today and my rating - 2/10. I usually love Itsu for its sushi boxes and thought I’d try the noodles since my colleague keeps raving about it. I was disappointed. The chicken teriyaki didn’t taste of teriyaki at all; it tasted more of coconut-miso non-spicy curry soup. There wasn’t much chicken (and of course it was dry chicken fillet)....

Columbia Road Flower Market...
… is really beautiful in the sunlight. And it was gorgeous today [I mentioned it in my last post] as it has been the last three weekends in a row. I gave some lavender serious consideration; a stall owner was selling a “six pack” [six pots] for £5. I also fell in love with some colourful heather and some oranges and lemons. I didn’t end up buying any thogh. It’s...

London in the sun
Parts of London are really beautiful when it’s sunny. We’ve been blessed 3 weekends in a row in September, with glorious weather. The air’s pleasantly crisp, and there’s lots of sun throughout the day till the sunset at 6. Once the sun sets though, the air gets chilly very quickly. Is this autumn? It’ll be my third but the changing of seasons is so subtle that...

Mon anniversaire hier
Dimanche, je me suis reveillé tard. Le déjeuner,...

“You know what it’s like with people who have a family, the family always...”
– So many people, when they have kids, they lose their identity and become the role that they play. For example, “Hi, my name is Keith. I’m Amy’s and Lara’s dad.” Everything revolves around the rugrat. It’s one thing if the kid is a great kid but when the kid is...

I love chorizos
The first time I’d ever had chorizos was about a month ago, when some friends and I went to Las Tasca to sample their Tapas for a Tenner menu. Absolutely loved their Chorizo Frito al Vino [chorizo sausage sauted in red wine] and ordered lots of it. (The silly thing about it is that it came in such teensy tiny portions.) When I went to Barcelona, we had lots of chorizo. A few weeks ago, we...

The Thames Festival on Southwark Bridge
I didn’t know that last Saturday was going to be a day of lots of people, lots of food, and lots of fun till Sue suggested the Thames Festival along Southbank! We started out as a group of 6 until Sam finally caught up, having been delayed by photo ops along the way. The weather over the weekend was lovely and warm and very much a cold September bonus. I think it’s really autumn...

Lodging a complaint
I believe that if something isn’t up to par, you should do something about it. If your own behaviour is sub-standard, improve it. If someone else who’s providing a service doesn’t meet the mark, by informing them, you put the ball in their court to improve. I bought a sushi box set from Itsu on Monday and was a little disappointed to see that a couple of slices of fish were so...

I love book stores
Big ones, little ones, chains and the obscure independent. I love book stores and a couple of weekends ago, I went to the Travel Bookshop off Portobello Road while shopping for a birthday present for a friend. I did manage to find a great birthday present and also saw lots of books that I have added to my Amazon wish list to keep track of what I want to get soon. Top of my list are the Japanese...

The easiest way from A to B
From the Airport to Barcelona city, that is. When we arrived at the airport, we took a bus from the airport which took us to Catalunya metro station, and then switched to the metro to Barcelonetta (as our hotel was near the harbour). What we realized only when we were departing Barcelona, was that about five minutes away from our hotel, was the Estació de França railway station with a direct...

Coffee drip
I think my all time favourite coffees are lattes and my favourite coffees are from Monmouth Coffee, Caffe Vergnano, Le Pain Quotidien, and yes Starbucks for their Iced Mochas for most other independent places do them too sweet. But sometimes good old instant coffee granules, a spoonful of sugar, and some milk haphazardly thrown together and mixed well make a good cup of coffee and a welcome...

The elusive Caixa Forum
The first day we were in Barcelona, we had tried to go to the Caixa Forum. It didn’t look that far on the map but it’s tough to gauge from maps if you’re not an everyday map reader, and of course tourist maps are not true to scale, plus it was a really hot and humid day which just sapped our energy like you wouldn’t believe! The most infuriating thing was that we almost made it there! We...
