so tired...
I went to an NHS clinic today. And I also went to the doctor’s. In my last post, I said that I couldn’t get a doctor’s appointment till next week so today, HR helped me get an appointment with the company doctor. And I finally got my amoxicillin. If you ask me, doctors don’t prescribe antibiotics enough. In Singapore, a quite look at my throat and I would have been walking...
it's hard to believe...
… that in a developed country such as the UK, the national health system (and I’m not talking about the institution the National Health Service) absolutely sucks. I’m sick at the moment. Flu, I think. Afterall, I did have the sore throat and green phlegm & muck. I’ve been sick on and off for the last three weeks. The last time I was completely well was the weekend in...
1:12 am
It’s late. I tried to go to bed but when I kept coughing. The coughing’s more tiring than the cough. I think another trip to the doc’s is in order. I’m in the midst of getting the paperwork for my new place through. It’s a really nice place near Westbourne Park. We were in the area on Saturday viewing 2 flats that turned out to be quite grotty and were on our way...
weighing it up
Sometimes I wonder if it’s worth it, leaving all that I am familiar, know and love behind and venturing to a new place. London is very transient, I think, with people from all walks of life working and living here for a period of time, before moving home or away from the great big rat race. I have Europe at my feet here and I’m getting to see more than I ever could if I had stayed...
gritting my teeth
In Asian cultures, we don’t wear our shoes into the home. Think Tom Cruise when he trekked his filthy army boots into Taka’s Japanese mountain home. She didn’t say a word, but cleaned the floors. Again. He noticed, and didn’t do it again. The reason why we don’t wear our shoes into the home is because the home is [supposed to be] clean and our shoes have walked paths...
THANK YOU Kay, have a nice weekend
– Ifigenia K. Sometimes a little bit of appreciation goes a long way. And you can tell if it’s genuine. Signing off with lots of X’s doesn’t mean a single thing if it’s all fake.
Polaroid no more →
Polariod’s closing its instant film factories. Is this the end of an era?
Winner!
I’ve been watching a few items on ebay, having bid on two unsuccessfully. Today, after a manic morning (which was to be followed by a manic afternoon that ran into a late and hungry evening, whilst chatting to Jayna, I ran out to grab a quick lunch, returned and started bidding with bated breath. 10 minutes later, I got myself a [new] rangefinder film camera. I can’t wait! Included in...
Bell Peppers
They are simple to make and oh-so-yummy! Stuffed Trim the tops off the peppers. Stuff with a cheese like mozzerella or goat’s cheese. Optional items like chopped fried bacon bits, onion, bread crumbs Pop in the oven and make till the peppers are soft. Water and oil aren’t needed as the peppers have enough water to make them melt. Stewed Chop them up (any smaller than a finger’s...
Suitably wowed
I went to a (new) friend’s place for dinner tonight. Sort of a CNY thing. He mentioned that there would be champagne and food. So I thought - no self respecting guest would turn up empty handed so I bought a bottle of rose, tied a pretty ribbon, et voila. It turns out, he’s somewhat of a wine connoisseur, fun, very nice, and a gracious host. I’m not sure what’s going to...
a second Chinese New Year in London
Today’s the first day of CNY and last night, we had reunion dinner at Evonne’s. Steph, Andrew, Jamie, Evonne and I. We had steamboat like we did last year but this year’s food was budget more accurately and we didn’t end up with lots of leftovers. Joel was supposed to go as well but he forgot about it and bought tickets to The Lion King. I made my grandfather’s...
