Lucky 7: an American diner in West London
We didn’t want to stray far from the flat after the incident but wanted food (after not having had breakfast, or much of it) and didn’t have it in us to cook. So when the man was downstairs fixing, we felt it was safe enough to leave in search of food. Burgers and onion rings from Lucky 7 always manage to appease the hunger monster. A tiny, American-style diner with six 6-seater...

The thing about it is...
Pretty much every year there’s a family/romatic/comedy about people and family over Christmas and how Christmas does actually bring out the best and worst in people. It’s quite true I think, particularly when “the norm” suddenly isn’t the norm anymore. I get stressed out because there’s no mirror in the bathroom. Nor hooks. So I can’t remove my contacts...

Merry Christmas!
It’s interesting, a little unnerving, how everything pretty much shuts down for 2 days over Christmas and Boxing Day. The Christmas dinner dry run
The week before, we thought we’d have a dry run of the Christmas dinner (I say dinner but in the household “dinner” means lunch and “tea” is normal persons’ dinner) we are going to prepare, and in light of the misfortune, we thought good company and good food would cheer us up. We had roast pork with amazing crispy crackling (from Gordon Ramsay’s),...

Tradition
My grandmother is 81 years old. She was born in China, moved to Singapore with my grandfather when she was 17. She was Chinese educated and probably only went to elementary school. She was born a Buddist, never ate beef and worshipped the goddess Kuan Yin for many, many moons. My grandmother is 81 years old. These days, she sings in the church choir and performs on stage in front of crowds. She...

Thoughts...
I experienced a really weird thing today. We were at the overland train station on our way out of London. She had her credit card in hand and was at the automatic ticket machine. She searched for the ticket and bought one ticket. One. Is it me or does this just seem somewhat strange? Had the situation been reversed, I’d have purchased all the tickets or said something before about spreading...
